MUSIC IS MY MESSAGE
Feature – DJ Mentos

Let me introduce you to my homie Zak Young aka DJ Mentos. This dude is a jack of all trades. He’s a graphic designer, website developer, dedicated father, and in between all of that he finds the time to make some amazing music

Mentos grew up a true hip-hop head and pretty much listened to nothing else until later on in his years. through discovering the art of sampling, mentos soon started to dig into other genres such as, Jazz, Rock, and Funk which led to him becoming a force to reckon with on the 1′s and 2′s

In the early 2000′s he began DJing for the group “3rd Message” opening up for legendary acts such as, The Gza, Prince Paul, Jeru The Damaja and a slew of others.

In the mid-2000′s he mad the natural shift from DJ to beatmaker which would lead up to him working with Son of Nun. Mentos and the former Baltimore high school teacher and cancer survivor recorded the the powerful and rebellious album “The Art Of The Struggle” in 2008 which led to them both receiving praise and airplay from college radio and underground music outlets.

After that Mentos would continue to make music releasing his first solo “Somewhere In The Middle” in 2010 and well as various remixes of song by Nas, Mobb Deep, Evidence, and many more

now in 2012 Mentos releases his second solo release “Field of Vision”

“This project marks a new direction for Mentos, focusing on jazzy instrumentals instead of his usual boom-bap hip hop beats. This album is a short but intense trip through Mentos dusty crates and unique production style. The sound he has concocted features strong rolling basslines, crisp hard-hitting drums and wailing horn solos.  Inspired by both modern-day producers and traditional jazz musicians Mentos has a unique style that has hip hop in it’s heart and jazz in it’s soul.”

So peep my homie DJ Mentos’s amazing album and be sure to keep an eye out for him cause he got plenty more in store for y’all
